Our Primary Focus
Studio Deiora publishes literary fiction, children's books, and memoir-shaped work with a strong voice and a real sense of place. We are small, so we choose carefully and give each book our full attention.

Why work with Studio Deiora?
Voice first
When we publish books we
respect the authors voice.
A sense of place
We love stories rooted in place and told by someone who can take us there.
Made with care
Every title is edited, designed, and printed
with care, from cover to cover.
We communicate
Every author deserves a publisher that understands their very real challenges.
What we publish
Studio Deiora publishes literary fiction, children’s books, and memoir-shaped work with a strong voice and a real sense of place.
We are small, so we choose carefully and give each book our full attention.
Literary fiction, memoir, and more
Voice-driven storytelling that stays honest about the complicated parts. Our debut is Barking at Dogs, a semi-autobiographical short story collection by Leon Lazarus.
Autobiography
Post Apocalyptic
YA SciFi
Humor
Children’s Picture Books
We commit to choosing books because we fall in love with them, and for no other reason. A manuscript earns a place in the Studio Deiora catalogue on the strength of its voice, its craft, and the story it is brave enough to tell, not on the identity, background, race, or creed of the person who wrote it. We read blind to everything except whether the work moves us. That is the only test that matters here, and it always will be.
Audiobook production
All audiobook production is done at Molweni Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. The professional team there use state-of-the-art equipment and a top-flight production team to deliver outstanding quality, and the perfect voicing.
Using South African talent for Barking at Dogs, the audiobook will release concurrently with the paperback and e-reader versions.
About Studio Deiora
Studio Deiora is an independent publishing imprint founded by Leon and Leora Lazarus. Leon is a creative director and artist, while Leora is a teacher, songwriter, and illustrator. Both are writers. They are based in San Diego, and the imprint carries that history in its bones: a feel for place and language, and for the uneasy, funny business of looking back at where you come from.
We are small on purpose. Every book we put out is one we believe in, made with care from the first page to the final proof.
Our mission
To publish unique, voice-driven books with a strong sense of place, and to make each one with real care.
Our vision
A small, trusted imprint whose name on the spine tells a reader the writing is worth their precious time.
